Mission Statement: To mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.
WELCA is mainly a Bible Study group here at Reformation. All women are invited to come, and you need not attend all the Bible Studies to follow them. We meet on the first Monday of the Month at 7:00 p.m. in the lounge. Our Bible Study is taken from the magazine Lutheran Woman Today. It can be found online or through a subscription obtained through Augsburg Fortress. (We are also willing to share our magazines with you.) This Fall we are discovering God in the details, through conversation, loyalty, community and identity. The Bible Study lasts about 2 hours, ending with some light refreshments.
WELCA also is involved with several other projects. We have Fair Trade Coffee and Tea for sale in the Narthex. On the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 9:30 a.m., we have Lutheran World Relief Quilt Tying. (We are always looking for donations of material and batting.) On the 2nd Monday of the month we have a Prayer Shawl group that meets at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., (you can choose your time). This is an informal time, where you can relax, talk, knit, crochet, pray and even learn to knit.
We also are working with the Tanzania group, in collecting money for scholarships for secondary education for young ladies in Utanziwa. The total of $450.00 will pay for a year of schooling for each student. If you would like to help sponsor a student, please contact the church office.
At other times we get involved with collecting items for Lutheran World Relief, such as health kits, sewing kits or layette kits. We also participate in West Berks WELCA Cluster, Spring and Fall meetings in the area.
