Mission Statement: To mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.
WELCA is mainly a Bible Study group here at Reformation. All women are invited to come, and you need not attend all the Bible Studies to follow them. Our Bible Study is taken from the magazine, gather magazine (formerly Lutheran Women Today). It can be found online or through a subscription obtained through Augsburg Fortress. (We are also willing to share our magazines with you.). This year's theme verse is "Take heart; get up, Jesus is calling you ((Mark 10:49b). Fall 2011 our Bible Study is entitled "To Follow and to Serve; The Gospel of Mark", The Bible Study lasts about 2 hours, ending with some light refreshments. Meetings in September are Saturday, September 10th at 9:30 A.M. and Monday, September 12th at 6:30 P.M.
WELCA also is involved with several other projects. We have Fair Trade Coffee and Tea for sale in the Narthex. On the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 9:30 a.m., we have Lutheran World Relief Quilt Tying. (We are always looking for donations of material and batting.) On the 2nd Monday of the month we have a Prayer Shawl group that meets at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., (you can choose your time). This is an informal time, where you can relax, talk, knit, crochet, pray and even learn to knit. A new group has started this fall, "Reformation Writers". Join us Mondays at 6:30 P.M. to share your stories.
We also are working with the Tanzania group, in collecting money for scholarships for secondary education for young ladies in Utanziwa. The total of $450.00 will pay for a year of schooling for each student. If you would like to help sponsor a student, please contact the church office.
At other times we get involved with collecting items for Lutheran World Relief, such as health kits, sewing kits or layette kits. We also participate in West Berks WELCA Cluster, Spring and Fall meetings in the area. The Fall West Berks Mission District WELCA Cluster EVent will take place on Saturda morning, September 24, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading. The topic is "Bold Women of Faith". We will car pool from our back church lot, leaving at 8:30 A.M.
