Education Ministry Committee
Chairperson - Aaron Hinnershitz
Council Liaison - Julie Seiz

The Education Ministry Committee, along with the Pastor, oversees and promotes educational activities within the congregation. In order to achieve this, the committee supports the following activities:

• Coordinates a Sunday School program for ages 3 through adult, that runs from September through June. Preschool through grade 6 uses the curriculum, Akaloo, from Augsburg Fortress. This is a curriculum that emphasizes discipleship as the basis of faith formation. It also offers online resources both for lesson preparation and family use throughout the week. The 7th and 8th grade class uses the curriculum Here We Stand, featuring in-depth lessons from the Old and New Testament. Our 9th grade class complements the 3rd year of our confirmation program emphasizing faith in daily life. The teen class is well-attended. There are 2 different adult offerings each morning.

• A 3-year confirmation program is offered to youth beginning in 7th grade. The confirmation program is an opportunity for a student to personally affirm his or her commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and to do so with meaning and integrity, having received instruction in the teaching of the Christian faith.

• First Holy Communion instruction is offered to students beginning in 3rd grade. A 3-session class allows students and their parents to learn about this important sacrament of the Lutheran church, before receiving the meal.

• Vacation Bible School is held each summer for a week at the end of July for age 3 through grade 6. This year’s theme was Rainforest Adventure and emphasized our stewardship of God’s creation.

• Special events throughout the year provide fellowship and service opportunities for our students and their families. Examples are a youth worship service, Sunday School Christmas Worship Program and an Advent Family Celebration.

• Educational Ministry follows the guidelines of the child protection policy at Reformation. All Sunday School classes and confirmation events are staffed by at least 2 adults, and all our volunteers have been asked to provide criminal background checks and child-abuse clearances.

• Provide a subscription to The Lutheran magazine to home-bound and new members.

• Maintain a church library containing devotional and religious offerings for youth and adults in a variety of media (books, videotapes, DVDs)

• Offer take-home devotional material for youth and adults.

Finance Committee
Chairperson – Ron Hartzell
Council Liaison – Gerry Wegman

The Finance Committee shall prepare a draft of the annual budget for the succeeding year and shall submit such draft budget to the congregation council for its action and later presentation to a congregational meeting. The committee shall exercise oversight of all the financial affairs of the congregation to make sure that they are being conducted efficiently, giving particular attention to the prompt payment of all obligations and to the regular forwarding of benevolence monies to the synodical treasurer. It shall, subject to the approval of the congregation council, be responsible for the congregation's investments and its total insurance program. It shall also provide for annual audits of the accounts of the treasurer and financial secretary as well as of the accounts of the Sunday School and other organizations within the congregation. The treasurer shall be an ex officio member of this committee.

Mutual Ministry Committee
Chairperson – Joanne Scattergood
Council Liaison – Chip Popovici

The purpose of the Mutual Ministry Committee is to strengthen our congregation in its ministry by developing and maintaining open lines of communication about expectations, attitudes and concerns. This communication may be between the paid staff and congregation, members of the congregation, or our congregation and the community. Members of the committee will try to be aware of early warning signs of misunderstandings and are responsible for working toward conflict resolution when conflict arises.

The members of the Mutual Ministry Committee are Linda Bechtel, Alan Blackburn, Cal Booser, Deb Dombroski, Jeanne Gochnauer, Joanne Scattergood, and Pastor Steve. If you have a concern, or are aware of a situation that should be discussed, please contact any member of the committee.

Parish Outreach Committee
Chairperson -
Council Liaison - Steve Barnett

The Parish Outreach Committee shall stimulate and lead all members of the congregation in continuous and, from time to time, concerted endeavors to reawaken inactive members of the congregation to the joys of a living commitment to Christ's church and to reach the unchurched with the message of the Gospel. To this end, the committee shall devote itself to deepening the spiritual life of Reformation and shall periodically study the congregation and its community context.

The Outreach Committee has undertaken a number of initiatives to respond to this directive, including:

• Developing a “brand” for our church - an identifiable and distinctive “look” that has been applied to church stationery, T-shirts, business cards, pew cards, new bulletin and newsletter covers, etc.

• Reaching out to members of our congregation who are temporarily removed from our community, primarily college students and military personnel. We have begun sending cards and care packages, and have established an annual breakfast for college students, military personnel, and their families during the Christmas holidays. We are also engaged in finding ways to involve these absent members in worship services when they are at home for a visit.

• Providing press releases to local papers regarding events at Reformation and securing ads in local programs.

• Establishing a greeters' program to provide a friendly handshake and a warm greeting at the two main entrances to the church building.

• Developing a follow-up program for visitors to our worship services. The program includes a letter from the pastor and a phone call from a committee member.

We are continuing to discuss ways we can have a positive and noticeable impact on the surrounding community.

Meetings: Second Tuesday of most months @ 7:00 PM

Property Committee

The chair of this committee shall oversee the work of the congregation's Sexton and Custodian. There is always something to do to keep our building and grounds in excellent condition. We are always looking for more people to help with the building repairs. If you would like to help us, please contact the property chairperson.

Meetings are held every other month.

Scholarship Committee
Chairperson - Ron Hartzell
Council Liaison - Steve Barnett

The Scholarship Committee was formed in 2004. Former Congregational Council President Jim Fegely donated the monies to establish a scholarship in memory of his wife Pat. The scholarship is to be awarded to a Reformation member who: (1) is continuing education after high school, (2) has been active in the life of the church, and (3) who has a demonstrated need.

The Scholarship Committee is composed of three members and meets several times during the year. We would invite anyone interested to join us in this wonderful investment in our young people. The committee is responsible for the investment of the money. The principal is not used. Any interest is rewarded as the scholarship. We always welcome contributions to the principal in honor or memory of loved ones. If you would like to contribute, please contact the church office.

Applications for scholarship are to be submitted by the end of April each year. Go to the Forms page and select the "Scholarship Application" or contact the church office for a copy. Applications are reviewed by the committee, and the scholarship is awarded in June.

The Social Ministry Committee shall exist to extend Christian compassion and helpfulness to the ill, the aged, the orphaned, the underprivileged, the imprisoned, and in general, to persons of all ages in need of aid in body or spirit. It shall strive to enlist in these efforts as many of the members of the congregation as possible. This committee shall further have the duty to study social conditions, primarily in the local community, in order to bring the cleansing and healing light of Christian truth to bear upon critical problems through thoughtful Christian discussions of facts and issues.

It is hoped that this generous nature will continue to grow as we work to expand our partnership in ministry with all current, new and developing "caring ministries" of our congregation.

Stewardship Committee

The Stewardship Committee shall endeavor to promote the expression of Christian faith in daily living: to teach the Christian use of time, talent and possessions, to diffuse knowledge of the congregation's local, national, and world-wide ministries, and to lead all its members to higher levels of proportionate giving for the Lord's work. This committee shall also be responsible for the annual Every Member Response and other congregational efforts which lead to informed and grateful giving.

Worship and Music Committee
Chairperson – Elisha Barnett

The purpose of the Worship and Music Committee is to assist the Congregation Council in seeing that the worship services of Reformation are conducted regularly and in accordance with the liturgy of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. In order to accomplish this, the responsibilities of the committee have been divided into four areas.

The Worship and Music Committee meets regularly with the leaders of the four Ministry Teams listed below.  These meetings provide a time and place for the team leaders and members of the committee to review and discuss our worship experiences, as well as share new ideas with each other regarding the worship life at Reformation. The committee also uses resources such as Preparing the Assembly’s Worship to study and reflect on its work within the church. Any interested member of Reformation is welcome to become a part of this committee.
